Close student-faculty contact

When you come to VIA University College, you will probably experience a different teaching style than the one you are used to. The main principle in Danish education is that the student has the responsibility for his/her own learning process, and this is also the case at VIA University College.

You will experience that we emphasise a faculty-student relationship based on dialogue, and this manifests itself in the way we communicate in the classroom. We don’t practise one-way communication where the lecturer lectures to an audience of patiently listening and silent students.

You and the other students are expected to ask questions, and overall there is an exchange of ideas and knowledge from which everyone benefits.

Quite a bit of the teaching will not be situated in the classroom, but rather in different forms of group and project work where the lecturer's role is more that of a consultant.

You will learn how to work not just as an individual but also as a member of a group, where teamwork, cooperation and communication are essential tools needed to succeed.

If you are unaccustomed to this style of teaching, it can be a challenge. However, as with all other challenges, if you are ready to meet them, you will acquire more experience and more daring.

As a result of both project work and a more demanding style of teaching, you will not only grow as an individual, but also be more attractive to future employers, who value this kind of experience in graduates as it reflects ‘the real world’ where your professional future lies.
